Wedding Galleries

You’ll see this section updated quite a bit. Although I don’t have the time, means, or even hosting space to blog every wedding I shoot, I do the best I can to add all of my favourites to the highlights album.

The Apple Blossom Wedding in Kopje Park
This wedding was unexpected. I had no idea I'd have such a blast, hanging out with some of the funnest people I've ever met. The venue was incredible, and the details, such as the flower chandelier, were like nothing I've seen. If you're looking for wedding ideas, get out your notebook. We began in Kelowna...with an amazing set of rings!     Soon, I'd learn the bride is quite the bookworm as evidenced by all the shelves lining the walls. Of course, we'd find a way to incorporate this into the photos.     And this dress....     I wasn't sure how I'd get my perspective in t ...

The Laurel Packing House Wedding
Kelowna has a lot of places to shoot wedding formals, you just have to look for them. They're hidden away, like the location just above. It was tough to choose just one header image. So, here's the runner up.     So, you might already be thinking, "Hey, I recognize those two!" And you'd be right. We had an amazing engagement session last year, even though it rained.     No rain today, though. That's the beauty of a March wedding. At 13º it was feeling just right. Not too cold, and not too hot. I arrived at our groom's house a little after 9.     It was a lovely little corner ...

The Helicopter Wedding in the Mountains
Quite the header image, but truth be told, it was tough to pick. We had some pretty stellar runner-ups.         That's on top of the video blog. Yes, I like to video blog weddings sometimes. Click here to see it! To be honest, this has been one of the toughest samplers to put together. There are so many incredible shots from this epic day. So let's start at the beginning - the bridal suite, at about 10:00am.     The ring had tremendous history about it. First purchased in 1906, it had been passed on and on through generations. I'm certain I'm not the first one to shoot it on ...

The Colourful 3 Day Wedding Gallery
Most of the time, I’ve got a wedding sampler up the night of. This one is a little different – as it’s about the size of three of my usual weddings, so it took me a little longer. And I had this great idea to schedule a wedding on Sunday. Day 1 We start out with our Mendhi ceremony.   This is a traditional and exciting pre-wedding ceremony. Fun fact, the Hindi and Arabic word Mehendi is derived from the word, “Mendhika.” – the reference to the henna plant itself. The girls were hard at work making sure everyone was intricately decorated.     Next, we have our Haldi ceremony. The Haldi paste is put on fi ...

The Classic Car Wedding at Lone Pine Ranch Gallery
This wedding is every kind of special to me.   This bride, we had met before. She'd been in the bridal party of no less than 5 weddings I've shot. Of the bridesmaids, I've photographed 75% of their weddings. It's not often I get to photograph the weddings of my friends, and so when I get the chance I enjoy every minute of it. Starting at Sparkling Hill, right at the ring shots.     I noticed a while ago that my iphone flash, although diffused, still casts a rough shadow. The crease in the book bisects that shadow. If you place a ring just right, preferably in a German book in an Austrian sauna, the shadow will ...

The Evening Wedding at ExNihilo Gallery
This wedding at Ex-Nihilo blew me away. I was surprised, as I hadn't photographed at this particular winery before. Later, I learned they only host a maximum of 5 weddings a year, making this a very special day indeed.           My day began at Sparkling Hill. The guys were busy helping each other get dressed. A top button was being particularly stubborn. We all banded together and dedicated ourselves to getting this situation taken care of.       After this, pocket squares, ties, and cufflinks. As a modern man, every detail must be taken care of. Before ...

The Naramata Winery Wedding Highlights
This wedding day begins at the Naramata Heritage Spa. Built in 1908, The Hotel Naramata, was the crowning achievement of newspaper tycoon John Moore Robinson. And it shows - high ceilings, large glass windows, and large ballrooms made for an incredible wedding album.     This is what I love about wedding days - they're wild cards. I photograph in a different place every weekend, with different settings. There's no room for stagnation. And this day was an adventure to say the least. Even I got pretty emotional at the end. Even picking out the photos for this highlights album was difficult. So many great photos. I really ...

The Victoria Lane Wedding Highlights
Most days, you'll find me in Kelowna or Vernon shooting a wedding. Every now and then, though, someone takes advantage of the included location bonus in my Gold package, and I pack up and head somewhere else in Canada or the US.     First, a recap. People reading this probably remember this engagement shoot from late last year. We called it the Turtle Mountain engagement. We spent the evening together, braving the wind and temperatures. One of my favourite shots from this very session is below, just when the the city lights started turning on one by one.     It might have gotten a little too windy ...

From Sanctuary Garden to The Eldorado Gallery
We visit two of my favourite Kelowna venues to photograph weddings, the always incredible Sanctuary Gardens, and the classic Hotel Eldorado. There's a reason so many wedding planners and photographers recommend these venues. Especially Sanctuary Gardens - the staff were very involved making sure everything went quickly, and according to plan.  They even provided and stabilized my ladder for a group shot! But we're getting ahead of ourselves.     Some of you may recognize these two from a snowy shoot at Knox Mountain. Ever since, I've been eagerly awaiting this day. I knew our  bride must have had impeccable ta ...

The Silver Star Summit Wedding
I'm calling this one the Silver Star Summit Sampler. That's because we took a chairlift to the top of Silver Star, then hiked our way down for the wedding formals. I recommend every bride do this, albeit with flats or hiking shoes. But first, let's start at a small near finished house above the lake.     We had our bride here, with a little bit of tension in her voice. Our stylist was hard at work putting on the veil. Once it was in, our bride got up out of her chair to look in the full-length mirror.     After a few tears, we came to the conclusion it's best just to leave the mirror for now. A ...

The Kamloops Country Wedding Album
These two contacted me about a year ago for their Kamloops ranch wedding.  It is a little bit of a drive, but the venue seemed interesting. We sat down at Starbucks to start our planning process, and from there on I learned they had a working ranch. Yup, complete with in use barns, horses, a pond, and even a waterfall. I started to get pretty excited.     Fast forward one engagement shoot and one year later, and I found myself with our bride balancing a ring on a snout. There must have been 30 people around me, all busy setting up. Someone was tearing up flowers, and putting them in a white cowboy hat for the flower gir ...

The Tattooed Up Wedding at Guisachan House
This beautiful wedding at Guisachan House. A gorgeous venue, it seems like it was made just for photographers. And, perhaps, for gardeners too. If you're in the market for a wedding venue, definitely check it out.   We start out at an Airbnb. I knew the ring shot had to be unique, and what's more unique than a human canvas?       The full gallery is just below. This is one of my larger galleries, at 100 images. Of course, it's simply a highlights gallery. The full gallery is over 600 pictures, which is far more than what I have space for on this website!     I see more Bride ...

A Wedding at Hattie’s Place
This is a venue in Vernon where I've never photographed a wedding before.     Which makes a lot of sense, because it's not a wedding venue. It's owned by the family, and over the last few months they've been landscaping and changing this little piece of Vernon to be a perfect, private, woodsy area. And I've got to say it really had an unreal feel to it.     This year I'm changing up a bit how I photograph. As you'll see in upcoming images (or the gallery, if you scroll all the way down to the bottom).     We start with our bride and her bridesmaids getting ready. The smell o ...

The Silver Star Wedding near Vernon, BC
I've often toyed with how I'm going to have my wedding. One of the ideas that keep coming back to me is to rent a large house or two for a weekend at Silver Star, have the ceremony in the back yard, and just have a weekend celebration with all my friends and family. With Tube Town, the hiking, and all the ski paths, there's a lot to do. Even 5 restaurants up in the village.   It's good to know I'm not alone with this idea. This lovely couple pulled it off so well. We started right in the thick of things. I arrive a little after 11:00am to meet up with the bride and groom.     I saw the incredible Jessie V ...

My Brother Got Married
Thanks to everyone who saw my sampler - it was a little late coming. Mostly because this year has been every kind of insane. I've shot more weddings this year than ever. I'm kind bummed out, to be honest. I'm gettings really itchy to shoot, even though it's icy cold outside. I'm sure the upcoming photography lessons will keep me just the right amount of busy.     This was quite the event - my brother getting married, and me as the best man. Certainly it's a change of pace to see myself in photos.     And let's not even talk about how paranoid I was about losing the photos. And a thousand other thi ...

From Sanctuary Gardens to Gellatly Highlights
Sanctuary Gardens is one of my favourite places to shoot in Kelowna. There's all this tall brush, in this picturesque scene atop a mountain in West Kelowna. Our day starts with a few ring shots.       Just outside the venue where we set up, I saw some mushrooms. Always take advantage of your environment, but make sure you have more than one location. In case you've been taking too much advantage of your environment.       We found a great place for the dress photo near the upstairs apartment.       Meanwhile, the girls were getting read ...

A Secret Elopement at Tantalus Vinyard in Kelowna
It's no secret I love elopements. Something about the secrecy, the story. These two came from way down south, just to experience our beautiful vineyards.       This particular vineyard is Tantalus Vineyard. Although they used to host weddings, it's now a very rare occurrence indeed. However, our beautiful bride sent such a lovely letter the owners couldn't resist. And did it ever pay off! I consider Tantalus one of the hidden gems in Kelowna. The owners are simply maniacal about organic, unsprayed grapes picked at just the right time. I chatted with them as they showed me the various spots around th ...

A Rainy Wet Wedding at Turtle Mountain Gallery
Thanks to everyone who visited the sampler! This highlights album will have more details shots (props to our amazing vendors), containing a whopping 170 photos. The final album is a lot more photos than that, so contact me if you were at the wedding and you'd like to be linked. Make sure you mention the bride and groom's name in the message!       We start our day with a few ring shots. I found some nearby candles and lit them. Later, talking to Bethany from Peace of Mind Weddings, she mentioned she knew exactly which ones I took and lit. The eye for detail that girl has is astounding.     ...
